Annapolis, MD - Dec. 19, 2025 -  Governor Wes Moore sat down with political commentator Baltimore Sun co-owner Armstrong Williams in a one-on-one interview Thursday, discussing a variety of issues, including the economy, energy, education and public safety.

"When we first came on board, we saw how there was an absolute violence crisis that existed within our state," Gov. Moore said.

"We're now looking at coming to a close of this year where we have seen amongst the fastest drops in violent crime anywhere in the United States of America," he added.

When it comes to reductions in crime, Gov. Moore cited investments in law enforcement and the justice system, improved technology, and measures that promote greater accountability.

In terms of public safety, Gov. Moore also touched on immigration issues.

"Public safety is my number one priority," Gov. Moore said. "I want to make sure that the people in our communities are safe and I want to make sure that particularly violent offenders, that we are removing them from our society, and frankly I could care less about their documentation status. I want violent offenders being accountable for their actions."

However with that in mind, Gov. Moore made it clear that he follows and supports the laws laid out in the Constitution. He also said it was important for Congress to ensure ICE has a clear understanding of its roles and responsibilities.

With the 2026 legislative session around the corner, Gov. Moore said his administration is focused on affordability.

"I have been very clear, we are not going to raise taxes over this session," Gov. Moore said.

"We still have to provide more support than just simply saying we are not going to raise taxes. I mean, last year we gave the middle class a tax cut, but we still know that's not enough," he added.

Gov. Moore said there would also be a focus on energy costs, and ways to provide relief to ratepayers. He reiterated that it was important to take an "all of the above approach" to energy options, which include clean sources, like wind and solar. He also said it was important to have a balanced approach when welcoming data centers and AI into the state.

Moore also touched on investments in education, which have resulted in fewer teacher vacancies and improved test scores in some cases.

Gov. Moore also addressed recent questions about his academic record at Oxford, saying, "this literally came from a blog post that I had never heard of before. And so while they want to spend time focusing on something that has been already disputed by Oxford University, the oldest English speaking university in the world, i am going to spend my time bringing pathways to work, wages and wealth to the people of Maryland."
