Baltimore, MD - Nov. 7, 2025  - Maryland Gov. Wes Moore announced Friday he is directing additional state resources to assist federal workers impacted by the federal government shutdown.

The state is making an additional $700 interest-free loan available to federal employees who are working without pay during the shutdown. So far, more than 2000 people have applied for a loan. They will now be eligible for a total of $1,400. That money must be paid back within 45 days after the shutdown ends.

Furloughed federal workers may apply for unemployment benefits in the jurisdiction where they work.

Free rides on transit will also continue for federal workers. In order to obtain these services, individuals need to have an active CharmPass account.

CharmPass can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play Store.

Federal employees should email mtacharmpass@mta.maryland.gov with Free Federal Transit in the subject line to request a monthly pass.

The federal government has yet to provide October or November funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) funds, which supports the Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP) in providing nearly 13,000 Maryland households with energy assistance benefits.

Friday, Moore signed an Executive Order to authorize $10.1 million of funding from the Strategic Energy Investment Fund (SEIF) to bridge the gap created by the federal government shutdown
