Baltimore, MD - Jan. 18, 2026 - The proposed "ICE Breaker Act of 2026" in Maryland is stirring controversy as it seeks to prevent ICE agents hired during President Donald Trump's second term from transitioning into local or state law enforcement roles.
Democratic Delegate Adrian Boafo of Prince George’s County sponsors the bill, which has drawn criticism from various quarters.
Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler criticized the bill, stating, "How sad can Maryland’s legislator, how low can they go?"
He argued the legislation is politically motivated, saying, "The hate, the Trump derangement system would be the basis."

Baltimore, MD - Jan. 17, 2026 - The Baltimore City Council is proposing forming a best-in-class community safe response system.
It would include dispatching trained civilians instead of police for non-violent, non-criminal situations.
Council President Zeke Cohen explained why it's needed.
"Many of the issues that people call 911 about are mental or behavioral health issues, and we need to make sure we deploy the right responders to address that kind of issue," he said, "Cops are not clinicians."

The first chance for snow is early Shabbos morning.
A cold front moving through the region may bring a brief period of snow, mainly during the morning hours. The snow is expected to be light and short-lived, lasting only a couple of hours. Most of Baltimore and nearby areas should see little more than a coating to about a half-inch of snow. Areas northeast of Baltimore, closer to Bel Air, could see slightly higher amounts — up to around an inch, with a few isolated spots near two inches.

Although this expression of Moshe seems like a question, with Moshe wondering how Pharaoh could possibly accept his words if the people wouldn't listen to him, especially with the additional deficit of his speech impediment — the Sefas Emes interprets it as a statement.
Moshe is expressing the reality that a leader is only as empowered as those he seeks to lead. If the people are incapable of hearing his message, Moshe interjects, then his lips are sealed. If only the nation would be receptive, would he be bestowed the power of speech to impact Pharoah as well.
