Baltimore, MD - Dec. 3, 2025 - The fully autonomous ride-hailing service Waymo is coming to Baltimore, the company announced Wednesday. Baltimore is among four cities in the company's latest expansion. The other cities include St. Louis, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. Waymo posted a statement online Wednesday that it will work with state officials to create a regulatory path for deployment. "Maryland has a long, proud tradition of embracing innovation and driving discovery. This new partnership with Waymo marks the next chapter in that story — and it's going to help spur growth, make our roads safer and get more Marylanders from where they live to where opportunity lies," Maryland Gov. Wes Moore said in Waymo's statement. "Together, we will continue our push to make M...
Annapolis, MD - Dec. 3, 2025 - As audits stack up this year revealing gaps in protocols, systems, and a lack of oversight in some state agencies, Gov. Wes Moore has a message to his agency heads: fix the problems. Most recently, a state audit revealed 42 state offices spent a total of $8.5 billion last year with minimal oversight. That audit came on the heels of a State Highway Administration audit detailing $360 million in unauthorized spending for federal projects, and a separate Social Services Administration audit revealing a lack of protections for foster care children in Maryland. In November, during a Joint Audit and Evaluation Committee briefing, auditors noted that 34% of audits had repeated findings appear in the next probe, as of June 2025; 10% were re...
Annapolis, MD - Dec. 3, 2025 - The United States is suing Maryland's top election official for access to an unredacted version of the most recent state voter roll. In a complaint filed Monday, the Justice Department alleges that it requested a "current electronic copy of its computerized statewide voter registration list, containing 'all fields.'" This would include voters' full names, birthdates, home addresses, state driver's license numbers, or the last four digits of their Social Security numbers. Attorney General Pam Bondi made the request of the Administrator of the State Board of Elections, Jared DeMarinis, in mid-July. According to the court filing, DeMarinis refused, "directing the Department to a website where 'copies of publicly available data i...
Baltimore, MD - Dec. 3, 2025 - Maryland could have to pay upwards of $300 million in 2027 to meet new federal costs to deliver food assistance to residents, with state that have high rates of administrative errors — like Maryland — having to kick in more. That is just one of the big-ticket expenses that states will have to take on to implement changes in HR 1, the congressional budget reconciliation bill better known as the One, Big Beautiful Bill Act, state officials told lawmakers Tuesday. In a virtual joint meeting of the Senate Finance and the House Health and Government Operations committees, legislators were told that changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid will cost the state millions to implement. Finance Chair Pamela Beidle (D-An...
The Trump administration announced Tuesday it has paused all immigration applications, including green cards and US citizenship processing, for immigrants from 19 non-European countries, citing national security and public safety concerns, Reuters reported. The pause applies to countries already subjected to partial travel bans in June, further tightening restrictions on immigration, a central feature of President Donald Trump’s political platform. The list includes Afghanistan and Somalia. An official memorandum cited last week’s attack on US National Guard members in Washington, in which an Afghan man was arrested as a suspect. One Guard member was killed and another critically wounded. Since returning to office in January, Trump has prioritized immigra...
Malcolm Hoenlein, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major Jewish Organizations in the United States, expressed deep concern at the Israel Hayom Conference in New York over the demographic shift working against the Jewish people and the American Jewish community. Hoenlein, 81, whose involvement in American politics began in the 1950s when he joined the presidential campaign of Adlai Stevenson, has witnessed many incidents of antisemitism throughout his life and in recent years warned that what happened in Europe could also happen in the United States. “Unfortunately,” he said, “this prophecy has come true.” “For the past twenty years I have been warning about the phenomenon,” Hoenlein said, “but even today people do no...

Republican nominee Matt Van Epps on Tuesday defeated Democratic rival Aftyn Behn, according to the Associated Press, in the high-stakes race to succeed former GOP Rep. Mark Green, who resigned from office in June to take a private sector job. "This race was bigger than just one campaign,"Van Epps said in a statement after declaring victory. "It represented a defining moment for Tennessee and for the direction of the country." With the GOP clinging to a razor-thin majority in the House, the special election was seen as a must-win for Republicans.
