Baltimore, MD - Sept. 5, 2025 - Please join the Baltimore community this Shabbos and Sunday in showing our kavod and support for Rav Yosef Zilberman, shlita, a very special Jew representing a uniquely special institution.  Over two hundred years ago, the Vilna Gaon sent some of his students to Eretz Yisrael to begin rebuilding Yerushalayim and resettling the land. Today, the Zilbermans and their students are continuing this work of the Vilna Gaon -- completely l'shem shamayim, with courage, humility, commitment, with kedusha and following exactly in the path that the Vilna Gaon set. For those of us here, supporting them is our chance to be part of something historically special in klal yisrael, something that is actively bringing the geulah closer. Rav Zilberman&nbs...

The Lebanese cabinet on Friday welcomed a military proposal to disarm Hezbollah, though no formal vote was held and no timeline was set for implementation, Reuters reported. The plan, presented by army commander Rodolphe Haykal during a three-hour cabinet session, was met with immediate protest from Shiite ministers, all five of whom exited the meeting upon Haykal’s arrival. The initiative comes amid growing international and domestic pressure to curtail Hezbollah’s military power following last year’s war with Israel, which shifted Lebanon’s internal balance of power. Lebanon’s cabinet recently tasked the army with formulating a plan for disarming Hezbollah by the end of 2025. The United States and Saudi Arabia have joined Christian an...

Fox News Digital spoke with 17 locals in Baltimore on Wednesday about what a National Guard deployment would mean for their community. While many worried it would raise tensions and inspire riots, others said the troops could serve as a crime deterrent.  When asked if Trump should step in and send troops to the city, Tasha, a young mother who was pushing her baby in a stroller outside the Department of Social Services, said, "Yes, I do, because right now our city needs it. Baltimore is on fire right now. We need as much help as we can get."...

Bnei Yisroel were given specific instructions on who is eligible and who may serve as a soldier in the conquest of Eretz Yisroel.  Exemptions were given for those who were preparing for marriage (Shoftim, 20:7), had built a new house (20:5) or if they had recently planted a vineyard (20:6).  Moreover, even one who was afraid of war could not participate (20:8).  In fact, the Gemarah explains that only Tzadikim were left to fight and that is exactly what was intended. How then does one understand the Torah’s significant discussion of the Yifas To’ar?  This woman, a gentile captured at war, is permitted to marry the soldier who captured her once the procedures, albeit extensive ones, are followed.  Rashi (21:11), citing the Gemarah in Kiddushin (21b) exp...
The holy Sochatchover points out that the prayer we say at the end of the blessing of Ahava Rabba right before Shma each morning: ובנו בחרת מכל עם ולשון וקרבתנו מלכנו לשמך הגדול — You have chosen us from among every people and tongue. And You, our King, have brought us close to Your great Name, alludes to the goal of the entire Tishrei experience. Rosh Hashana — the anniversary of the creation of Man, whose original mission is now embodied in the history and objective of the Jewish nation — the 'Chosen People' from among all nations, is mentioned first. We then delight in the privilege in having been brought close by our King, which finds its greatest expression on Yom Kippur where G-d lovingly beckons us, לפני ד...

A federal appeals court has blocked a judge’s order requiring Florida and the federal government to shut down and dismantle a controversial immigration detention facility built in the Everglades, widely referred to as “Alligator Alcatraz.” On Thursday, the Eleventh US Circuit Court of Appeals granted requests from the State of Florida and the US Department of Homeland Security to stay a district court’s preliminary injunction that would have forced the site to wind down operations within 60 days. A preliminary injunction is a temporary order put in place until a court can make a final decision in a case. “After careful consideration, we grant the defendants’ motions and we stay the preliminary injunction and the underlying case itself pending appeal,&r...

Wes Moore (D) said Wednesday he would be willing to accept help from the federal government to fight crime in Baltimore, just not through the deployment of National Guard troops as President Donald Trump (R) has repeatedly threatened.
