Baltimore, MD - Aug. 29, 2025 - As reported by BJL, a groundbreaking interfaith summit took place this week in Julis, Israel, convened by the Chief Rabbinate and the Interior Ministry. The event brought together top religious leaders from across faiths — Jewish, Druze, Christian, and Muslim — in a powerful display of unity, peace, and mutual respect. We are proud to share that two of our very own leaders, Maryland State Senator Dalya Attar and Maryland State Senator Shelley Hettleman, were present at this historic gathering. The Senators were invited by the Israeli Embassy to participate in the high-level meeting, representing not only their districts but also the broader values of respect, coexistence, and international partnership that our community holds dear. Turkey announced Thursday that it has severed all economic and trade relations with Israel, in a move Ankara says is a response to the war in Gaza. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated that the measures include the suspension of all commercial exchanges and the closure of Turkish airspace to Israeli aircraft. Fidan accused Israel of what he termed “massacres” against Palestinians in Gaza and charged that Israel is deliberately making the enclave uninhabitable. He further claimed that Israel is blocking humanitarian aid and warned that its policies endanger regional stability. The minister said the decision reflects Ankara’s broader response to what it views as ongoing crimes in Gaza. He added that Turkey will continue to work with Qatar and Egypt in efforts to a...
Hamas’s military wing spokesperson, Abu Obeida, declared on Friday that Israeli hostages are being held alongside its fighters in combat zones under the same perilous conditions, as Israel intensifies preparations for a full-scale invasion of Gaza City. “We will preserve the lives of the captives to the extent that we can,” the terror group said. “They will remain with our fighters in the places of confrontation, exposed to the same risks.” Hamas added that for every hostage killed as a result of Israeli military action, it would publish the individual’s name, photograph, and proof of death. The statement comes as the IDF prepares for a Gaza City offensive, having already initiated the initial phases of the operation. The city has been the focal ...

Baltimore, MD - Aug. 29, 2025 - Maryland is among 21 states and Washington, D.C., that are either already in or are at a “high risk” of a recession, according to a warning this week from the chief economist at the credit-rating agency that recently downgraded Maryland’s bond rating. The U.S. economy as a whole is “on the edge of recession” as a result of such a large number of states trending downward, Moody’s Mark Zandi wrote on social media Sunday. “Based on my assessment of various data, states making up nearly a third of U.S. GDP are either in or at high risk of recession, another third are just holding steady, and the remaining third are growing,” Zandi wrote. Moody’s is one of the top three credit-rating agencies and the only o...
לעילוי נשמת ידיד נפשי עוז ר' שלום יוסף בן הרב צבי ע"ה A king must write a Torah that will always be with him. והיתה עמו — It shall be with him, וקרא בו — and he shall read from it all the days of his life, so that he will learn to fear Hashem, his G-d, to observe all the words of this Torah…  (דברים יז יט)   והיתה עמו — It [the Torah] shall be with him, is appropriately written in the feminine form, as the object being held is the תורה, which is feminine. Yet, when the Torah directs the king to וקרא בו — to read from it [the Torah], it reverts to בו — 'him' in the masculine form, rather than the feminine בה — in her. The great Tzaddik...

Jerusalem, Israel - Aug. 29, 2025 - On Wednesday, 27 August, Prime Minister Netanyahu met in Jerusalem with U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham and Cindy McCain, Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP).They discussed the humanitarian situation in Gaza and that Hamas loots the aid. Mrs. McCain acknowledged that the stolen aid that goes to Hamas is not humanitarian. Hamas seizes it and sells it at extortionate prices. She said that during her recent visit to Gaza, she saw a dramatic improvement: food was available, prices had dropped, and markets showed goods in sufficient supply and at affordable prices. It is regrettable that Mrs. McCain has since issued statements contradicting what she told us in Jerusalem. That is a misrepresentation. Israel is enabling a steady flow of aid in s...
